Musicians Reviews

We work with some of Vermont's finest musicians!

Recent Review from a Guitar Sam customer

"On close examination that neck has the finest fretwork I’ve ever seen, even compared to a high end new guitar….!

One of the things that amazed me was that the original nut was not slotted perfectly uniform between the strings…  Jesse copied the original spacing exactly.

Every fret is perfectly crowned, with the slight flat spot on top exactly the same width on every fret.   Talk about fine details!!! "

Seth Yacovone - Vermont Fretworks has been excellent to work with.  Handing off a beloved instrument to be worked on  can be a scary situation but Vermont Fretworks has always done great work in a timely, professional manner and left my guitars, both electric and acoustic, playing and sounding better than when they went in, ready to be able to make music and handle being used heavily in real life playing situations daily.

Steve Hartmann - "It's hard to find good people that do excellent work for a fair price, in most industries, really. From mechanics to tailors, general contractors to massage therapists, dentists to auto dealers.  And that's just asking for, what I feel are, the basics - good work and a fair price. Jesse Cowan of Vermont Fret Works goes far beyond the basics by educating his clients about the intricacies, mechanics, and craftsmanship of the instrument, so that the client can then care for it better, appreciate it more, and play it with more love.  As a semi-professional musician, it's hard to find someone I trust to work on my instruments, but Jesse has never let me down... always going that extra step. I recommend him to you, as I recommend him to everyone - if you want it done right with integrity and in a timely manner, go to VT Fret Works."

Dakota Foley - I accidentally dropped my beloved Rigel mandolin at a wedding of all places and it broke, almost in half. A few musicians saw it and thought it was beyond repair. The next day I hurried the Mando over to Jesse Cowan of VT Fret Works who just finished dressing the frets on my Gibson SG. He pretty much glued it on the spot and within a few weeks I got it back and was amazed at how well it came back together, unless you meticulously look it over you’d never be able to tell it was broken in the first place. Price was fair considering the damage and amount of work put in. Had him dress the frets too and it plays like the day I first bought it.

The work is always top notch and the turnaround times are great and realistic for giging musicians. Add to this that he's a friendly and personable guy and I'll be bringing my guitars to him indefinitely." -John Nicholls, Near North

Andrew James - I have played music with Jesse and had him working on my guitars for over a decade now. The work is always done fast and right the first time! I love my guitar and would trust just anyone to do work on it.

John Leggett - "Jesse has been my go to guitar guy for several years now.  Not only does he do a fantastic job, but he is also full of great information on how to maintain my guitar and keep it playing at its optimum level.  I recommend Jesse to all my fellow musicians whether it's a hardcore repair or just a periodic tune up.  There is nothing he can't do. Thanks!"

Jeff Valone - I went to Jesse to have my Warwick converted to fretless. He did such a great job! The work was so clean and smooth, you would never have guessed it wasn't built as a fretless right out of the factory.
